MLB: Josh Naylor suffers horrifying collision that takes him out of the game in a cart

Silence suddenly covered the Target Field today Sunday when the young Canadian Josh Naylor from Cleveland, he was shaken a lot with a grimace of pain after a collision in right field. He was rushed to the Hennepin County Medical Center emergency room and the Ohio Tribe is still waiting to hear his exact diagnosis.

Jorge Polanco’s fly ball fell into shallow right field in the bottom of the fourth inning of the Indians’ 8-2 loss to Los Angeles. Minnesota Twins. Second baseman Ernie Clement was backing up as right fielder Naylor entered

Neither of them could get out of the way and a brutal collision sent Naylor through the air. When he landed, his right foot seemed to have stuck under the weight of his body in the wrong direction.

Naylor immediately began to roll on the ground, gestured for help, and ran his hand down his throat to indicate that he was seriously injured. Paramedics joined Cleveland’s medical staff in right field and immediately placed him in a brace that looked like a cast on the lower right leg.

Medical personnel spent 12 minutes working on Naylor before they could remove him from the field. And up until the moment he was taken out of the stadium, it was clear that he was in a lot of pain.

In the first few minutes after medical personnel arrived at Naylor, Clement was only a few feet away, sitting on the grass with his head down. Although he suffered a cut chin, his reaction was simply in response to how horrible he felt to be part of the collision:

The fly appeared to be deep enough for Naylor to make a relatively routine catch. However, Francona said he did not believe Naylor canceled Clement, which caused the accident.

But even so, Clement, who has played in just seven major league games, couldn’t help but feel responsible. Colombian outfielder Harold Ramirez escorted Clement to the dugout as he left the field to be checked by the training staff with his cap covering two-thirds of his face to hide his excitement. He entered the dugout and before being assessed, he rested his head on the bench, covering his face as his companions tried to comfort him.

Clement had a cut on his chin, but was able to pull away from the collision without further damage. After Clement was cleared by the training staff, Naylor was loaded onto a stretcher and placed in a cart to be taken out of the field. Outfielder Bradley Zimmer came out of the dugout to take center field, allowing Ramirez to take Naylor’s spot at right. The injury and the aftermath were very difficult to see.

We don’t need much clarity on the situation to know that Naylor won’t be back on the field anytime soon. The Indians are close to getting a handful of their key players back from the disabled list, but that doesn’t include outfielder Jordan Luplow. So who could be added to the active roster as the fourth outfielder?

Cleveland has Zimmer, Ramirez and Eddie Rosario left as outfielders on its roster. Even if Franmil Reyes returns from his internal oblique tension this week, he doesn’t meet the outfield’s daily need. The club will have at least three options in its Minor League system, including calling Oscar Mercado after he wasn’t on the Opening Day roster, bringing in Daniel Johnson, or calling shortstop Andrés Giménez and returning Amed Rosario to the outfield. .
