MLB: It’s already rained! Miguel Cabrera does something he hasn’t done for 13 years

The last time Miguel Cabrera drove in five runs in a game without hitting a home run, hit a two-run double off a rookie Royals starter and former No. 1 overall draft pick named Luke hochevar. Cabrera also drove countryman Carlos Guillén home three different times. That was on July 21, 2008, in the middle of Cabrera’s first season as Tiger.

Cabrera has inflicted a historic amount of damage to teams since then, but every big game has included a home run. Considering how Detroit is finding different ways to score runs these days, and the Tigers scored a lot in Monday’s 14-0 slate win over the Texas Rangers at Comerica Park, it may be appropriate for your senior hitter to do so as well:

After watching his teammates trim the holes in Comerica Park’s outfield and scamper around the bases the previous two days, Cabrera got down to business. His double to clear the bases in the fifth inning practically put this game out of the reach of his nemesis Kyle Gibson, but when the throw went home, Cabrera kept going.

Catcher Jonah Heim’s pitch easily outscored him at third base, but replay review showed Cabrera’s sliding hook contorted him around the hit.

Cabrera’s run from home plate to third, timed at 13.42 seconds by Statcast, is the closest he can get to a triple at the age of 38, which he hasn’t registered since 2016. The damage helped drive Gibson, a former player from American League Central rival to the Twins and current Trade Deadline target by contenders, with eight runs and 10 hits before being pulled without an out in the sixth.

Rafael Martinez

I am fond of the King of Sports, especially the Boston Red Sox in MLB and in general all of Mexican baseball. This profession has given me the opportunity to cover major events such as the Caribbean Series, LMB All Star, LMP (uninterrupted since 2009), signings of important players. I had the chance to attend the 2013 World Classic in Arizona, USA, albeit as a fan. Apart from this beautiful sport, I love basketball, where I have also narrated games and even an NBA friendly 10 years ago, but I carry baseball in my veins. Bachelor of Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) , from which I graduated in 2011. I was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa and started in the world of sports journalism in 2004 in the newspaper El Sol de Mazatlán, where I was a baseball columnist and reporter at the same time. In January 2009 I came to El Debate as a journalist reporter and it was almost six years (in the first stage), until in November 2014 I emigrated to the radio providing my services in Línea Directa-Grupo RSN. My cycle there ended in July 2019 and within days, El Debate gave me another opportunity to work and opened the doors for me again. That is how I came to Al Bat, where I have been since 2019 as a web journalist.
