MLB: A’s ask Mariners for ‘the moon and the stars,’ in exchange for third baseman Matt Chapman

The interest of Seattle Mariners at division rival third baseman (and prominent trade candidate) Matt Chapman It’s not exactly a new revelation, but even as the Oakland A’s prepare for what appears to be a significant payroll cut/mass sale, they’re still aiming high in trade talks.

It is believed that the Athletics would ask that the Mariners will include the best prospect of the Dominican team Noelvi Marte as a main player in any deal involving Chapman, who is controlled for another two years through arbitration:

The A’s and other clubs would surely target him in a number of trade-trade scenarios, but it seems unlikely that the 6-foot-5, 180-pound Marte will actually change hands.

Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto has already gone on record this offseason to indicate that “there is no scenario” in which he would move the biggest names in his farm system.

The quisqueyano Marte trails super prospect Julio Rodriguez in most rankings, certainly falling under the umbrella Dipoto alluded to. The A’s could, of course, try to strike a deal centered on another headliner, but if Dipoto was being serious in his reluctance to trade the best of his system, a deal might be hard to come by.

In January 2009 I arrived at El Debate as a journalist reporter and it was almost six years (in the first stage), until in November 2014 I emigrated to the radio providing my services at Línea Directa-Grupo RSN. My cycle there ended in July 2019 and a few days later, El Debate gave me another opportunity to work and opened the doors for me again. That is how I came to Al Bat, where I have been since 2019 as a web journalist.
