MLB: Another horse is back on the Dodgers DL and it’s Cody Bellinger

Just as he welcomed a full-capacity crowd back to Dodger Stadium as part of the pregame ceremony Tuesday, the Los Los Angeles Dodgers they placed the young star gardener Cody Bellinger on 10-day disabled list for tension in the left hamstring. The Dodgers called up right-hander Mitch White to replace Bellinger on the active roster.

Bellinger suffered the injury last Friday against the Texas Rangers and has missed the last four games. He was not expected to play tomorrow, Wednesday, which is what ultimately led the Dodgers to place him on the disabled list:

It’s the second time Bellinger has landed on the shelf this season. He missed nearly two months while recovering from a minor fracture to his left leg suffered on April 5 against the Oakland Athletics.

Bellinger was also limited for most of spring training, rehabilitating his right shoulder (not his throwing one) after undergoing offseason arthroscopic surgery.

The rash of injuries has contributed to Bellinger having a difficult start to the season. He’s hitting .226 with one home run in 62 at-bats. His 83 OPS + would easily be the lowest of his career:

Bellinger had a few pregame runs over the past few days, and the Dodgers hope Bellinger’s stay on the inactive list won’t be prolonged. In the absence of Bellinger, the Dodgers will continue to rely on Mookie Betts and Chris Taylor in center field. Matt Beaty and Luke Raley will also have more playing time as left-handed options.

The loss of Bellinger is the latest blow for the Dodgers, who have dealt with numerous injuries this season, particularly to their position players. Corey Seager and Max Muncy are currently on the disabled list and will be out for a couple of weeks. Zach McKinstry also missed six weeks early this season.

Could he lose three key pieces of the lineup at the clubhouse?

So far, Roberts is right. He hasn’t worn out on the Dodgers. Despite injuries, LA entered Tuesday’s game with the most runs scored in the National League. Taylor, Will Smith and Justin Turner have provided consistent production, and the team still believes that Betts has yet to play his best baseball of the season.

The Dodgers have talked about his depth since February and he will be tested once more over the next two weeks.
