MLB announces details of the amateur draft

Major League Baseball officially announced the details of the 2022 Amateur Draft and Draft Combine on Thursday. For the second year in a row, the MLB Draft will take place during All-Star Week, to be held in Los Angeles from May 17-2020. July 19, while the Draft Combine will take place at Petco Park in San Diego between June 14 and 20. Once again, MLB Network will give exclusive coverage to both events.

The Draft will feature 20 rounds over three days, including the first two rounds, the compensatory round and the competitive balance round on the first night of the event. The second day’s selections will be made throughout rounds three through 10, while the final day will cover rounds 10 through 20. For the third time in history, the Orioles will have the first pick in the Draft.

The 300 Draft-eligible players, identified by USA Baseball and MLB clubs, will be invited to participate in the 2022 Draft Combine, along with 30 additional guests. The Combine will give them the opportunity to participate in a series of performance and medical tests, along with educational plans designed to prepare them for their professional baseball careers. All players will have the opportunity to participate in professional-style demonstration training, as well as strength and performance tests. Additionally, high school players will be able to participate in games against other participants of their level.

As part of the Combine experience, participants will have the opportunity to speak directly with members of Major League Baseball team offices. They will also be able to appear on the various MLB social media channels.

MLB Network will be covering the MLB Draft Combine throughout the week, including analysis and interviews from the participants.
