Miranda BREAKS ABSOLUTE KBO strikeout record, HUGE Odrisamer. Cubans in Asia

By Juan Páez

Ariel Miranda’s first year in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) has been one to remember. On Sunday’s matchday, the Cuban left-hander was filled with glory by breaking the absolute record for strikeouts delivered in a Korean league season. Although he did not do well on the hill, the islander added four fans to leave behind the mark set by Choi Dong-won in 1984.

Miranda was part of the Doosan Bears 5 × 4 win against LG Twins. In 4.1 innings of 86 pitches, he allowed three hits and two earned runs, with seven walks and the four strikeouts mentioned. Thus his effectiveness increased to 2.33.

Miranda started the day with 221 fans, just two short of Choi Dong-won’s record (223). But in the third inning, he knocked out Hong Chang-ki to become the all-time top strikeout in a season on the Asian circuit.

The big difference, and of much greater merit for the West Indian left-hander, is that he barely adds 173.2 episodes launched this season. Instead, Dong-won achieved the old record at 284.2 innings and 51 appearances (20 as a starter) in 1984, pulling with the Lotte Giants. Best of all for Miranda, she should have one more opening left to expand her cap, as the regular round will end on October 31.

In that challenge, teammate José Miguel Fernández hit 3-2, with one run scored. His hitting average closed the engagement at .316.

IMMENSE THE DESPA

Once again, Odrisamer Despaigne was huge on the nose to lead the KT Wiz to a 7 × 1 victory against the Kiwoom Heroes. The experienced right-hander took his 13th win of the 2021 season.

Odrisamer subdued the rival slugger for 6.2 innings, in which he allowed only four hits and an earned run. He also struck out four and walked four. This was his fourth straight outing allowing fewer than three clean lines. Thus, his overall effectiveness decreased to 3.29 and surpassed the 180 episodes released (183.1).

Moving on to what happened in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB, its acronym in English), Adeiny Hechavarría finished 4-1, with a pair of strikeouts (.206 / .225 / .319), while his teammate Leonys Martín went in white in four valid chances, including fan (.234 / .356 / .498), in the Chiba Lotte Marines 3 × 2 victory over the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
