MiLB: Former World Series champion has been retired for a month and has already taken a job as a Coach in Minor Leagues

Former Major League Baseball player, Christian colon, accepted a position as coach within the organization of the Kansas City Royals. The recently retired infielder – December 5 – is expected to open the season on staff with the Double-A affiliate of the club in Northwest Arkansas.

Puerto Rican Colón appeared in parts of six major league seasons during a twelve-year professional career. He is best known for his playing days in Kansas City. Selected by the Royals with the fourth overall pick in the 2010 draft, he made it to the majors in July 2014. The infielder and right-hander spent the next three or more years with the Royals, hitting .263 / .323 /. 329 out of 348 plate appearances:

More importantly, Colón appeared in the postseason in each of his first two seasons. The Royals won consecutive American League pennants in 2014-15, claiming a World Series title last season. Colón marked his place in franchise history during that championship run.

In his only plate appearance in the 2015 playoffs, he came off the bench to hit a hit in the top of the twelfth inning during Game 5 of the World Series. Colón hit an RBI single from the lead to drive a five-run rally that gave Kansas City a 7-2 victory in the final series contest against the New York Mets.

After his playing days in Kansas City ended in 2017, Colón rebounded between a few organizations. He dressed for the Miami Marlins and Cincinnati Reds until 2020 before spending the 2021 campaign in the Toronto Blue Jays system. The 32-year-old announced his retirement last month.

In a chat shortly thereafter, he expressed his desire to start training at that time. He will begin his post-game career with his original organization, working on a Royals farm system that Baseball America ranked as the league’s third most talented in August.
