Mike Shildt remains heartbroken over Cardinals firing

mike shield managed to enter the St. Louis Cardinals to the playoffs, despite the fact that the bets did not give them as a better team than the San Diego Padres at the end of the day. And as if that were not enough, he achieved a streak of 17 consecutive games won in order to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a Wild Card game at Dodgers Stadium, where they were left on the field with a home run by Chris Taylor .

One of the least expected and never imagined moves of the offseason was that the St. Louis Cardinals had in mind to fire Mike Shild after accomplishing so much together.

Shild is currently doing his job as a supervisor for the San Diego Padres, but it’s not like he’s completely forgotten how the St. Louis Cardinals hurt his heart.

“I’m heartbroken,” Shildt tells USA TODAY Sports. “It still hurts. It hurts bad. When it first happened, I broke down. He was heartbroken. I got better over time. Then I came down here, put on the Padres uniform, and it hit me.

“I love that organization, I gave it everything I had for 18 years,” Shildt said. “We got to the playoffs after they hadn’t been there for three years. We’re back to Cardinals standards. We are ready to go for real. The fair style of play, the culture, everything is in place.

“I was on the phone with the idea that it was going to be a contract extension,” Shildt said. “I had one more year on my contract. So I was looking at some of the numbers from the last three years, feeling good about them, and then Mo started talking.”

“I never thought it was a possibility,” says Shildt. “She hit me like a ton of bricks.”

Clearly it wasn’t the best way to replace Shild, who did nothing but a terrific job with an organization with weak pitching, good defense and a lack of consistency when it came to hitting in MLB 2021.
