Mariners rookie sets longest record for consecutive strikes

George Kirby of the Seattle Mariners set a new record for consecutive strikes in a start in Major League Baseball history.

The right-handed pitcher Seattle Mariners, George Kirby, set a major league record by pitching 24 consecutive strikes to start the game against the Washington Nationals.

Despite George Kirby he allowed five hits and one run before throwing his first pitch to Joey Meneses in the third. Kirby passed the 21 mark consecutive strikes that Joe Musgrove had when he did it in 2018 against the St. Louis Cardinals when he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“The command and what it has done, forget the rookie tag. You can call the shots and control the strike zone with anyone in our league.”jo the manager of the Seattle Mariners Scott Serv

“It just sets you up for the whole at-bat,” Kirby said. “I mean, if you get the first strike, the hitter has to guard five pitches now. He just attacks. That’s what I’ve been doing all my life. I really try to hammer the corners, just quality shots, that’s what I’ve been focused on. Sometimes, you throw one down the middle.”

It should be noted that it is still time George Kirby he has allowed no more than three earned runs and one walk in 15 of his 18 starts this season, tying Toronto’s Kevin Gausman and Kansas City’s Zack Greinke for the most such starts in the American League.

Kirby, 6’4 tall, 215 pounds and 24 years old, began the season as the best pitching prospect for the Seattle Mariners, so far this season he is 5-3 with a 3.47 ERA in 90 innings and 93 strikeouts. It’s certainly a good impression for a rookie pitcher who’s in a tough division.
