LVBP: Molina debuts with victory as manager

The recently retired Major League catcher, Puerto Rican Yadier Molina, had a triumphant debut as manager with the champions Navegantes de Magallanes in Venezuelan winter baseball.

The Navegantes attacked early and had a solid start from Erick Leal to defeat the Tiburones de La Guaira 5-2 on Saturday and start the defense of their title in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League with a victory.

Leal won the game after completing five innings of five hits and two runs. The setback went to the record of Víctor Díaz, punished with eight hits and five runs in two innings and a third.

Arturo Nieto went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Rayder Ascanio went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

In Barquisimeto, the Cardenales de Lara displayed an offensive of 17 hits and crushed the Tigres de Aragua 14-4.

Kennys Vargas was 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs, Pedro Castellanos was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, Javier Sanoja was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Jecksson Flores was 4-for-3. 2 with two produced.

Bencomo only allowed a solo homer to Carlos Pérez in five complete innings to win the game. The stumble was Henry Centeno, after allowing four runs in four innings and two thirds.

Willians Astudillo and Eduardo Díaz each hit two-run homers, while Asdrúbal Cabrera knocked it out of the park solo.
