LVBP Final: When the decisive event is a family affair

It is uncommon for players who are brothers and/or relatives to coincide in professional baseball, it is even more difficult for them to attend the same decisive confrontation. That happens in the current Final of the LVBP between Navegantes del Magallanes and Caribes de Anzoáetegui with the presence of Ángel and Víctor Reyes.

The relationship between them lies in the fact that they are cousins. The first aboard the ship as a substitute player, while the second is in his debut season with the aborigines.

Both are natives of Barcelona in Anzoátegui state and only one year of age separates them. Here we mention some pairs of brothers whose casts have been measured in the last stage of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball tournaments in the recent 30 years.

LVBP Finals, Zambrano brothers: Eduardo with the Eagles and Roberto with the Tigers coincided in the Final of the 1991/1992 season, this was won by the raptors in the maximum of seven duels.

During that final, the one from Zulia participated in all the commitments to shine with a .387 average (31-12), with 1 home run, 2 doubles, 8 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

The Aragüeños, after 6 years with the raptors, was in his first debut championship with the Bengalis. In that Final he also stood out with the wood, leaving an average of .333 (27-9), with 1 biangular, 1 RBI and 3 annotations.

LVBP finals, hBrothers Alfonzo: They are probably the only duo that has repeated in the LVBP Finals, and for more in two instances of the Eternal Rivals during the 1993/1994 and 1996/197 campaigns.

When they met, Edgar was in his tenth season with Leones del Caracas. Édgardo was a novice who played his second year of experience with the Navegantes del Magallanes.

During the first confrontation, the oldest left .250 at bat (12-3), being more discreet in the second dispute with .211 (19-4) a couple of hits by two bases and a couple of teammates brought to the plate.

For his part, the minor played only defensively in the first Final. In the second his performance was unusually low for someone of his level: .105 (19-2), with double, triple and 2 RBIs.

LVBP finals, hBrothers Martinez: José and Leonardo, at the service of Navegantes and Tigres respectively in 2015/2016, met “halfway”.

The Magellan had started that year with Aragua but was sent to the ship on November 24, 2015 by Alberto Callaspo.

For the decisive event, José did his bit in an unsuccessful cause: .278 (18-5), 1 double, 1 RBI and 5 runs scored.

Leonardo, for his part, watched the bulls from the sidelines, since he was not part of the tiger roster for the Final.
