LVBP: Braves come back and knock out Zulia

Dilson Herrera hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to reverse a disadvantage, and Margarita’s Braves left the Eagles of Zulia on the ground, to prevail 12-11 and continue to lead the Venezuelan Baseball League Professional.

Herrera rounded out a great day on offense by hitting 7-4, with two homers and five RBIs, Luis Castro hit a solo home run and José Martínez had two hits with two RBIs.

The victory corresponded to Jesús Martinez (2-0) after retiring a batter. Eleardo Cabrera lost (0-2), after allowing two touchdowns without taking outs in his relief.

At Maracay, Wilson Garcia hit a two-run home run and Josmar Cordero had three hits with a double and two RBIs to lead the Tigres de Aragua to a 6-1 victory over the Leones del Caracas.

Guillermo Moscoso (1-0) stood out with a six-inning scoreless start, of just four hits, to win the game. Luis Amaya (1-1) lost it, after allowing three touchdowns and five hits in three innings.

In La Guaira, the Navegantes del Magallanes crushed the Sharks 12-4. Rayder Ascanio was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, Arturo Nieto was 5-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Nellie Rodriguez was 3-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.

In Puerto La Cruz, the Lara Cardinals exploded with an eight-touchdown attack in the sixth inning thanks to a three-run homer by Carlos Rivero, a two-round RBI double by Alberto Callaspo, and an RBI double of one more by Alí. Sánchez, to beat the Anzoátegui Caribs 9-5.

Margarita’s Braves lead the circuit with a 12-6 record, followed by the Cardinals (11-6), Leones (10-7), Navegantes (9-7), Sharks (8-9), Tigres (7-10) ), Caribes (6-10) and Águilas (5-13).
