LAST MOMENT: MLB announced nominees for the 2021 Gold Glove, 3 Cubans among them

By Daniel de Malas

In an unusual way, Rawlings Baseball has announced the nominees for the defensive Golden Glove Award of the Major Leagues in this 2021, using the social network Twitter and with posts for each position, who have had the fans of the best baseball in the world in suspense, in order to know who opts for the award.

As you know, the awards for the best with the glove are given by Rawlings Sports and this year they will be revealed on November 7, on ESPN, around 8:30 pm (Eastern Time of the United States).

In left field Cuba has two finalists, Randy Arozarena and Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who compete with Andrew Benintendi and give a good chance that one of us will win the prize.

The other Cuban nominee is first baseman Yulieski Gurriel, who at 37 should not have it easy against Matt Olson (OAK), multiple winner of this award (2).

The last Cuban-born player to win the Golden Glove was Luis Robert, who took the cat to the water in 2020, just in his debut campaign, while the first to achieve it was Orestes Miñoso, chosen in 1959 along with Al Kaline and Jackie Jensen.

Minnie repeated the award in 1960, but Rafael Palmeiro and Rey Ordoñez were the first to get Golden Gloves in a row in 3 consecutive seasons, taking them simultaneously from 1997 to 1999.

Almost 20 years passed and Yoenis Céspedes, in 2015, was the second former National Series player to win a Gold Glove (behind Ordoñez).
