LAST MINUTE: Prospect from the capital arrived in the Dominican Republic and will seek a Major League signing

The 19-year-old Cuban prospect, Christian de Jesús López would have left the country bound for the Dominican Republic, according to several sources. journalist Francys Romero.

Romero announced that the Industriales player arrived in the Dominican Republic with the objective of obtaining residency in a third country and beginning the free agency process, to try to negotiate a signing with a Major League Baseball organization.

At the time of his departure from the country, López was among the 27 athletes who were part of the preselection of the Under-23 team that will attend the I Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, in November.

Christian made his debut in the National Series last season, when the capital’s team began to suffer from injuries to its main men in the outfield. Then, the young promise began to have responsibilities and grabbed headlines for his excellent conditions to play baseball.

Among the tools exhibited by the athlete are a powerful swing, capable of producing a good amount of extra bases. In turn, his contact and speed on the bases made him an interesting player. Likewise, on defense he proved to be versatile, after occupying positions in the infield during the youth categories, López accepted the challenge of defending the Blues’ outfield, displaying a powerful arm and a polite glove.

During his first and only season with the Lions, No. 94 reached 17 hits in 84 visits to the batting box. As a fun fact, about half of those hits were connections of more than one pad. Lopez got seven extra bases; distributed in four doubles, a triple and two full-turn stakes. In that way, he left an offensive line of .233 / .309 / .397 AVE / OBP / SLG.

The young man from the capital joins the recent departures of his former teammates, Andy Rodríguez and Bryan Chi, leaving the capital’s Blues without their most talented players under 23 years old. In the next campaign, which was officially announced for the month of January, Guillermo Carmona’s team will have to reinvent itself if it aspires to achieve a good result, in a championship that, without starting, taking into account the great exodus of athletes, will be one of the weakest in the history of Cuban baseball.
