Excellent news comes to us from Aztec lands, and it is that the pitcher from the capital Rogelio Armenteros, who in 2019 debuted in the Major Leagues with the Houston Astros, signed a contract with the Red Devils of Mexico, of the Mexican Baseball League, summer circuit and second in importance in that country.

As announced by the most successful organization in all of Mexico on its Twitter account, the right-winger who played for a season in the Industriales of the Cuban capital will be part of the “Red Gang” for the upcoming campaign.

Armenteros has a repertoire based on four fundamental pitches: a fastball that exceeds 90 miles, a change of speed between 80 and 83 mph, a curve that reaches 80 mph and an 85 mph slider.

Although he doesn’t have great conditions, his excellent control makes him a difficult and dominant shooter. It was no accident that Armenteros was placed on the Houston Astros’ top 30 prospects list in the 2017-2020 period.

The Havana native played six seasons in the Minor Leagues, where he reached a balance of 35 wins and 25 losses, pitching 117 games, 102 of them as a starter. His PCL was not negligible at 3.63 and his WHIP was 1.28. His strikeout average was higher than nine per complete game (9.9), retiring 609 rivals via strikes in 555.1 innings.

His brief stint in the Majors was reduced to five games pitched, two as a starter, one as an setter and two as a closer. He won one and lost one and pitched 18 innings in which he allowed eight clean (RPL=4.00), had 17 hits, struck out 18 and gave away 5 walks. He faced 75 batters and his WHIP was 1.22.

Good luck and success to this talented pitcher from the capital, who at 27 still has a lot to give in professional baseball.
