Kyle Freeland signed a contract extension with the Colorado Rockies

Left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland signed a contract extension with the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball organization – MLB.

Through a statement through his Twitter account, Jeff Passan announced that the left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland reached an agreement with the Colorado Rockies organization and signed a extension from his contract.

The rockies agreed with Freeland on a five-year, $64.5 million contract extension, the deal also contains an option to play a sixth season. Freeland had been controllable through arbitration from 2023, so the deal buys three years of free agency.

The deal evidently went through quickly, as Freeland stated last week that there was “no movement” on an extension and that the team had not submitted an offer. Within days, he and the team agreed to a long-term contract that plans to keep him for at least another three seasons.

Surely this extension is particularly nice for Freeland, as he hails from Denver and has been a part of the Rockies organization his entire career.

According to Jon Heyman, if Freeland tops 170 innings in 2025, he would earn an option to stay on the team for $17 million for the 2027 season.

Similarly, Ken Rosenthal mentions that Freeland could also trigger an opt-out after the 2024 season by finishing in the top five in Cy Young voting in either of the next two seasons.
