JG Castro in Diablos: “we come to add”

Mexico City — The Red Devils of Mexico present Juan Gabriel Castro as team manager for the 2022 Season of the Mexican Baseball League, in an event held at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium.

The ‘Scarlet Gang’, in search of reaching the 17th title in its history, gives the reins to Castro, who reaches the ninth with 17 seasons of experience as a player in the Major Leagues, as well as having already directed both the LMB and in the Pacific League, and the Mexican National Team, which he qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“I am grateful for coming to this organization. It is very important to be here. Yes, there were several proposals (from other teams) and in the end I came here to the Devils because it is a serious organization and has very good prestige and great principles, which are also in accordance with my principles. I really want to work, we come to add and we will do everything possible to bring the title to Mexico City”, were the first words of Castro during his presentation.

Juan Gabriel comes from being part of the Philadelphia Phillies organization, with whom he spent three years, until his contract ended in October 2021, for which he ended his employment relationship and became a ‘free agent’.

“The demands are high because it is a team that must win. I come to work as a team, we are going to prepare ourselves to try to win every day. The goal is to be champion not only on the field but in every way”, commented Juan Gabriel.

Castro has been a coach in MLB (Los Angeles Dodgers and Phillies) and has managed the Toros de Tijuana (2015), as well as Yaquis de Ciudad Obregón, Águilas de Mexicali and Naranjeros de Hermosillo, in addition to the Mexican National Team.

What message do you send to the players who will be with the team?
“The main message is ‘we want to be champions’. The important thing is that we all work as a team to be able to achieve the goal we want, which is the title”, explained the new manager. “We know it is not easy. One way of working with the players is to try to make everyone happy, but something that has worked for me and that I have done with the boys is respect, respect towards themselves, towards their teammates, towards baseball. I try to have good communication with them. Communication is very important and we will have that in the Devils”, he explained.

With this appointment, work will begin on the construction of the coaching staff, where some candidates will be interviewed, also keeping some coaches who already work in the squad. Similarly, it was confirmed that Miguel Ojeda remains in the organization as part of the sports area.
