“Heated” meeting between Union and MLB, but with progress

The Players Association and the office of Major Leagues – MLB held this Monday a new meeting to agree terms for the 2022 season and although there is no agreement, we have progress in this new meeting that is described as “heated”.

This meeting was the first that left (positive) progress since we have had a work stoppage in the Major Leagues, being a bit hopeful for that agreement that all baseball lovers want so that things can be solved and have everything on the table, ready and correct for the upcoming 2022 campaign.

advances

  • The Union has made two very important concessions to unblock the negotiations: 1.- Withdraws from the table its proposal to reduce service time from 6 years to 5
  • Modifies revenue sharing proposal reducing incentive pool for winning teams from 100 million dollars to only 30 million
  • Both proposals were key for MLB and owners represented by Manfred to unlock the meetings.
  • Union yields in both in exchange for reviewing other points of the collective agreement.

On the other hand, the players have made it clear that they want to play Spring Training on dates and a full season (162 games), so in general these advances are classified as “positive” and tomorrow, Tuesday, January 25, the MLBPA and MLB will meet again, being something that happens for the first time since the December work stoppage, two games in a row, it means that the outlook is good and we are on the right track.

Although, of course, there is still a long way to go, it seems that there will be an agreement in time. Without a doubt, the attitude of the players has been key to this progress, in our opinion here at El Fildeo.
