One of the absences with the greatest connotation in the 61 National Series is that of Frank Camilo Morejón. In the month of May 2021, at 35 years of age, Guillermo Carmona, together with his management team and the provincial baseball authorities in Havana, made the arbitrary decision to leave him off the blue list.

The news, as unexpected as it was shocking, brought about a dark end to the career of the masked man from the capital, after spending many years shining in the baseball elite. Frank Camilo wasted no time. He was disappointed in the authorities, but not in baseball. Therefore, he began to pass on his knowledge to promising young catchers. His house became a small academy, in which he uses new methodologies for the preparation of future defenders of the position.

His mastery behind the plate was recognized by fans and specialists for many years. This caused him to frequently receive proposals to prepare young people with a desire to play the position.

“When I was still active, many parents approached me asking me to prepare their children. When everything happened, I contacted some of the parents and they told me that if I started training to let them know, that they would trust me to work with their boys. So, I got excited and made an appointment for my house. Right now I train twelve athletes from Havana, in addition to Yendrys Pérez, Yoan Rojas, Ariel Pestano Jr. and Pedro Revilla from Guantánamo».

The former receiver of the Industriales said that he welcomes all the players interested in preparing with his work methods and tools at his home. He also recognized the importance of Doctor of Sciences Alfredo Ríos, current sabermetrician of the National team, in the development of new techniques, “to transform Cuban baseball.”

In some of his publications, it has been possible to see how the new coach shares his experiences with Brayan González, one of the four receivers of the capital team. «With Brayan he is not the only one I work with.
