Giants sign Dominican pitcher who was key in getting Stanton from Marlins to Yankees

The San Francisco Giants they arrived at a minor league deal for two years with the right-hand free agent reliever, Jorge Guzman, announced their representative agents through a publication in Instagram.

It’s rare to see two-year minor league deals, which are usually agreed when it’s known a player will miss a portion of the upcoming season. Guzmán missed nearly the entire 2021 campaign with the Marlins due to elbow problems, which landed him on the 60-day disabled list in August. He required surgery in September, from which he is still rehabbing.

No exact timetable has been set for Guzmán’s return to the mound, but since Guzmán is not on the 40-man roster, he can head to the team’s Spring Training complex and work out with training and medical staff even during the current work stoppage

Guzman was the top prospect on the exchange who sent to Giancarlo Stanton from Miami to Yankees. Before that deal, he was involved in another trade, moving from Houston to New York for Brian McCann.

Unfortunately, due to elbow problems and the canceled 2020 minor league season, Guzman has pitched only 18 total innings since then, 2 2/3 innings in the major leagues. Those injuries eventually led to Guzmán being written off the Marlins’ 40-man roster, and he elected minor league free agency after clearing outright waivers.
