Fried was the hero of Braves in the 10th

ATLANTA – Pitcher Max Fried pinch-hitting a bases loaded single in the 10th, and the Atlanta Braves rallied to beat the Miami Marlins 8-7 on Sunday.

Fried was sent to the batter’s box as the Braves ran out of position players after a four-run cluster in the ninth inning. At 3-1, he found a pitch by Anthony Bass (1-4) for a single that pushed Dansby Swanson from third base and sparked celebration at the opening line.

In the 10th inning, with the bases loaded and one out, Austin Riley was retired at the plate when he tried to score on a wild pitch by Bass. Riley was originally marked safe, but the umpires reversed the decision after reviewing the video.

Bass then filled the house with an intentional walk to Kevan Smith, before receiving Fried’s single.

Miami took a 7-3 lead with three touchdowns in the ninth inning.

But Will Smith (3-5) ended up taking the win by resolving the 10th inning.

Venezuelan Ronald Acuña brought up a sacrifice fly that evened the game in the ninth inning. He also hit a two-run homer in the third.

For the Marlins, the Dominicans Starling Marte 4-2 with three runs scored, Jesús Sánchez 5-0, Magneuris Sierra 1-1. Venezuelans Jesús Aguilar 5-3 with two runs scored and two produced, Miguel Rojas 5-1, Sandy León 5-2 with one scored and one produced.

For the Braves, the Venezuelans Acuña 4-1 with one scored and three RBIs, Orlando Arcia 4-2 with one scored and one RBI, William Contreras 3-0, Ender Inciarte without an official turn but with one scored, Ehire Adrianza from 1-0. Cuban Guillermo Heredia 5-2 with one scored. Dominican Abraham Almonte 1-1 with two RBIs.
