Four legends received honorable mention of the Luis Aparicio Award

Miguel Cabrera, Edgardo Alfonzo, Jesús Marcano Trillo and Francisco Rodriguez received honorable mentions of the Luis Aparicio Award in its 18th edition.

The merits of Miguel Cabrera

The batter is the biggest winner of the Luis Aparicio Award in history with five statuettes obtained. The recognitions were obtained in the seasons of 2005, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015, but it will be the first time that he has received an honorable mention.

“In the case of Edgardo Alfonzo, Jesús Marcano Trillo and Francisco Rodríguez, despite not being active players, were immortalized in the Mets, Phillies and Brewers organizations. For this reason, the Advisory Council decided to give them the Honorable Mention as happened in the past with figures such as David Concepción, Melvin Mora and Bob Abreu, also due to merits in their careers that allowed them to be part of the history of a Major League Baseball club, ”Pérez stressed.

In the 18 editions of the Luis Aparicio Award, a total of 27 honorable mentions have been awarded. The first to get one was Oswaldo Guillén in 2005 for becoming the first Latin American manager to lead a World Series.

It is also the second-highest number of Honorable Mentions awarded in a season. It is only surpassed by the 2012 harvest, when they distinguished Omar Vizquel, Johan Santana, Félix Hernández, Marco Scutaro and Pablo Sandoval.
