The experienced Camagüeyan outfielder Leslie Anderson Stephens has been in the city of Tampa for several days, where he lives with part of his family after his participation with the Bulls in the most recent season of the Cuban Baseball National Series.
With the man born in Guantánamo in 1982 I had the opportunity to talk this Monday, first to congratulate him on Father’s Day, and later to learn about his immediate plans in the purely sports context.
The former member of the Tampa Bay Rays and Yomiuri Giants organization He told me that his performance in the last campaign has given him back the desire to remain active within the Camagüey squad for 2023. However, the outfielder and first baseman himself let me know that before next year there are great possibilities of playing another tournament on the island.
It is about this unprecedented elite tournament that at the moment does not have much clarity regarding its format and characteristics, in which everything seems to indicate that Anderson is of interest to the National Directorate of the sport of balls and strikes in the largest island in the area caribbean
Certainly the performance of the member of the Cuban team in the first two World Baseball Classics was stellar, even though today the island’s baseball contest in its higher category is not a measure.
The charismatic player with participation in 12 Series, most recently compiled .355 with nine homers, 55 RBIs and a total of 81 hits. Number that could have been better but he missed several games due to a suspension after his fight in a game against Artemisa at the 26 de Julio stadium.
When he returned to Cuban baseball in 2019-20 after almost a decade away due to his decision to emigrate, his team disputed the Cuban title against Matanzas. His work was decisive for the Bulls’ subtitle, with special emphasis on the semifinal against Industriales.

But already his physique has been depriving him in the last three years of having considerable durability, which had made him doubt about staying active after the 61st National Series. Even with the dismissal of Miguel Borroto as manager of Camagüey, many thought that Anderson would decide to hang up the spikes.
For now, he will be resting all this time in the Florida city of Tampa with his loved ones, with whom he spent a Sunday of mixed feelings. Especially since her father is no longer physically there.
