Eric Stout will go up to the hill to face the Cibao Giants

The Pitcher of the Year in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Lbprc), Eric Stout, will climb the hill of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium tonight to face the powerful lineup of the Gigantes del Cibao in the Caribbean Series.

Stout will open the second game of the Criollos de Caguas, at 8:00 pm, in the Caribbean classic that takes place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Criollos fell yesterday in their first match against the Astronauts of Panama.

“Stout was the best pitcher in the league. He has an excellent arm. We know the Dominican roster quite well and with the repertoire that he has to launch, if he executes it well, he will be victorious”, commented the manager of the ninth representative of Puerto Rico, Ramón Vázquez, to THE SPOKESPERSON.

The left-hander who was a reinforcement of the runner-up Indios de Mayagüez dominated the regular series of the Lbprc with a stingy 1.24 ERA. He went 3-0 in six games and as many starts.

In 29 innings, he struck out 36 batters and allowed just six runs, four of them earned.

Stout will pitch against the heavy artillery of the Dominican Republic’s ninth representative led by major leaguer Marcell Ozuna, outfielder for the World Series champion Atlanta Braves.

Ozuna will arrive at the tournament with a hot bat after winning the Most Valuable Player award in the final series of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom), where he hit three home runs and drove in eight runs.

The charismatic ballplayer known for taking selfies after he hits a home run will be joined by other Major League players, such as outfielder José Sirí (Houston Astros), first baseman Hanser Alberto (Texas Rangers) and veteran infielders Robinson Canó and Cuban Henry Urrutia.

Canó – who played with the other Lidom finalist team, the Eastern Stars – played until the 2020 season with the New York Mets before receiving a 162-game suspension after testing positive for doping substances. Meanwhile, Urrutia played for the Baltimore Orioles in 2013 and 2015.

The rest of the team is made up of receivers Carlos Paulino, Webster Rivas and Wilín Rosario; infielders Juan Francisco, Richard Ureña, Gustavo Núñez and Kelvin Gutiérrez; rangers Moisés Sierra, Melky Mesa and Jordany Valdespín.

In the final series against Caguas, Stout didn’t have it all with him as he finished with a 4.70 ERA.

For the third duel tomorrow, against the Navegantes del Magallanes, from Venezuela, the Criollos will have the right-hander Yordy Cabrera. That duel is scheduled for 3:00 pm
