The president of the National Federation of Dominican Baseball Players (Fenapepro), Erick Almonte, revealed that the players of his country they prefer that the 2023 Caribbean Series be held in Colombia and not in Venezuelaas planned.

In an interview with Colombian journalist Dayana Villalobos for the ABC stationsAlmonte pointed out that reason obeys political issues. The president also added that if the 2023 Caribbean Series was held in Colombia, it would be easier for some players to participate and travel to the tournament.

“It’s not that we’re against it, but you have to know that right now there are an impasse of the players who are in the Major Leagues to travel to Venezuela. Players who are on the 40 or Minor League roster will not be able to attend the series, that would be inconvenient. But It is nothing against the country. We are prepared for the event, the best talent that is presented is the one that should be taken”, he declared.

The National Federation of Players has little weight in the decision on the headquarters of the Caribbean Series. However, it would not be the first time that the venue of the meeting has been changed due to the crisis in the country. Already in 2019 the Caribbean Series stopped being held in Venezuela and went on to be held in Panamaone of the teams invited to the tournament.
