LOS ANGELES – First Base Max muncy will enter the Los Angeles Dodgers disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle.
The Dodgers called the outfielder Luke raley Saturday night to take the spot on Muncy’s roster, who left Friday’s game in the second inning with the last significant injury to the defending World Series champs.
Muncy hit his fourteenth home run of the season in the first inning of the series opener against the Texas Rangers, but was replaced by Albert pujols shortly after.
Muncy is hitting .264 with 33 RBIs in 60 games this season for Los Angeles. Before his oblique injury, he had been struggling with a right ankle injury since he injured himself on June 4 in Atlanta.
The gardener Cody Bellinger he also left Friday’s game with a strained left hamstring, and was not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup on Saturday. Manager Dave Roberts is cautiously confident that Bellinger’s injury is not serious.
The Dodgers’ latest round of injury problems has left the champs shuffling their roster. Early Saturday, the Dodgers selected the infielder. Andy burns from Triple-A Oklahoma City, they opted for right-hander Mitch White and designated right-hander Dennis Santana for assignment.
The 30-year-old Burns hasn’t played in the majors since 2016, when he earned his only 10 major league experience games for Toronto without landing a hit. He’s hitting .330 with five home runs and 20 RBIs at Oklahoma City.
The backup first baseman is expected Yoshi tsutsugo (calf) begin a rehab assignment in Oklahoma City on Sunday. The MVP of the World Series, Corey seager, whose hand was broken by a pitch on May 15, is still about two weeks away from starting a rehab assignment.
Bellinger, Seager, the infielder Gavin lux, the gardener AJ Pollock and the newbie Zach McKinstry long stretches this season have been missed due to injuries. The starting pitcher Dustin May (right elbow) and infielder Edwin rios (right shoulder) are already out of the season, while the key reliever is unlikely Corey Knebel (right lateral tension) come back until the end of the season, if at all.
