The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again one of the big contenders to win it all this MLB season, having perhaps the best collection of names of any organization, having future Hall of Famers, former MVP and Cy. Young, in addition to multiple All-Stars. However, while they’re all at different points in their careers and still serving at a good level, the exception might be closer Craig Kimbrel.
Kimbrel is the active leader in MLB in saves, but for several seasons he has lowered his level worryingly, and since he came to the Dodgers instead he has a 4.37 ERA and although he has made saves, he does it in a cardiac way and Dave Roberts has issued a warning, mentioning to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register that he could lose his closer job “if he doesn’t get his act together.”
He’s our closer, no question about that, but performances matter, especially late in games. Nobody knows that better than Craig. He has to keep working on some things and be more efficient and effective. Those are the facts.
So far this season, Kimbrel has blown three save opportunities in addition to going in and losing games three times this season with the Dodgers.
