Dodgers: According to Dave Roberts, one of his relievers owns the ‘deadliest slider’ in MLB

After two consecutive seasons well below the level he had performed throughout his career in the big topthe relief pitcher of the Dodgers, Blake Trenenseems to have returned to his best form during the 2021 season.

And that was not all, with the help of his pitching coaches in Los Angeles, Treinen made some adjustments to improve his repertoire. According to the Dodgers manager, Dave Robertsthe veteran pitcher is the one who has the best slider in the major leagueswhose pitch has put him in a starring role in the Californians’ bullpen.

“That slider is the death of hitters. And I think a lot of the credit goes to him and our pitchers. It’s like getting the right grip to match your throw. I think that’s kind of a secret sauce.” Roberts said during one of his team’s spring camp games at Camelback Ranch, Arizona.

Treinen struggled on the mound in the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the A’s and Dodgers. A year earlier he had been one of the best relief arms after finishing with a 0.78 ERA in Oakland. Although there were doubts as to whether he would regain his All-Star caliber, in 2021 he showed that he is back thanks to the modifications he has made in recent months.

Following the departure of Kenley Jansen, Blake Treinen is one of the favorites to become the team’s closer. However, it will not be easy for him to take on that role, as Dave Roberts himself has said that he has at least five or six men who can play that role in his squad.
