It has been a long time since baseball became more than a sport. It is passion, music for the finest ears, it is pleasure from the moment you are born, it is a condition of life, loyalty, suffering, identity, and many other feelings that emanate towards this spectacular discipline.

An essential part are the awards, which each year become more relevant and prestigious. Starting with the Most Valuable Player (MVP), to the ideal teams in both leagues, and in both categories (batting and defense).

There are many ways to excel in this sport: both from the position of the batter, where strength and precision can contribute to the development of exceptional ability, and from the side of the pitchers, where strength and precision are also important, but above all. all the ability to hit or catch a ball that travels at different speeds, makes you separate, between being a normal player and an extraordinary one. The better you are at performing these activities, the name begins to take on capital dimensions and its feats, merits and records begin to become prizes.

I have read about the great players that I did not have a chance to see, Babe Ruth, Ted William, Cy Young, Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Reggie Jackson, Hank aaron, Willie Mays, Stan Musial, Ty Cobb, Juan Marichal, Bob Gibson, Walter Johnson, Dennis Eckersley, Luis Tiant, as well as the endless list of athletes who have marked times, records, trends and won multiple awards within the Major Leagues – MLB .

Yes, I have been able to see and as the phrase says: ‟REMEMBER IS TO LIVE AGAIN”, I have had the opportunity to see and remember: Ichiro Zuzuki, Rogers Clemens, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffin Jr., Roy Halladay, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodríguez, Pedro Martínez, David Ortiz, Derek Jeter, Frank Thomas, Randy Johnson, and other assets such as Albert pujols, Mike trout, Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw. You can say that baseball has seeped into me, in an irreversible way.

But it is clear, what has been the reason for naming so many luminaries, with so many glories and joys offered during their careers. The common factor is, they garnered awards and nominations during their successful careers in Major League Baseball – MLB.

Yes, the finalists in the categories, which are part of the 2021 regular season awards, have already been announced. On the 21st, it was published by the Players Association MLB All the finalists, and the winners will be announced on October 28, in a ceremony broadcast by ESPN and presented by Major League Baseball.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bryce Harper and Shohei ohtani, are the finalists of the award for Player of the Year. Opinions on this award are divided, but in my modest opinion the season of the Japanese Ohtani has marked a rebirth of the magic of baseball where we see a player, who bats and throws and stands out in both, in case their criteria are different. I leave the numbers of the phenomenon Shohei Ohtani

Batting: .257 Ave / .372 OBP / .592 SLG / .965 OPS, 46 Hr / 100 Rbi’s / 26 BR

Picheo: 9-2, 3.18, 130.1IP / 156 K / 1.09 WHIP / .207 Ave Opp.

From now on we will be waiting, being a finalist is as great a distinction as the prize itself, since it shows how much the players contributed in their performance. There is a statistic that since its appearance has been fundamental (WAR), a metric from a few years of creation that tracks the performance of an athlete over the average replacement player, giving an image in numbers of how much you contribute to your team. A player like Ted williams I would have appreciated such a metric, having Triple Crown batting seasons and could never win a best player award (MVP).

This year many of the nominees are very young athletes, who have been colorful throughout the season, including players such as Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Shohei Ohtani, Trevor Rogers, Jonathan India, among many others.

There will be many opinions, different criteria, but the reality is that the responsibility falls on those in charge of giving their vote, and immortalizing an athlete for their performance in the 2021 season.

No doubt at the end of the season of Major League Baseball – MLBAll the spotlight will be on who will win the prizes, and we will be eager to meet them.
