Cuban Television took a step forward with the Major Leagues

Obviously the claim of so many through social networks has paid off. “Child who does not cry …”, the saying goes, and although it is still far from ideal, Cuban television has advanced one more step in terms of broadcasting the MLB in its main news spaces.

Since the end of last week, some improvement began to be seen shortly after published our note where this almost absolute blockade was harshly criticized by television channels. But before and after this article, hundreds of publications appeared on the networks that had practically absolute support for the absurd informational discrimination of the Major Leagues, and the almost zero multiplication of Cuban players.

The closing of the divisional duels was reported on the noon newscast with images included and the same has happened in the remaining days in the sports section of that space and in the morning magazine “Buenos Días”. Both belong to the Caribbean Channel (Information System) that airs on the 6th and 8th.

In that same channel there has been a follow-up of this decisive phase of the best baseball in the world within programs that can be seen by those who have in their possession the well-known “boxes” with the HD signal. They are the cases of “Real Time”, “Final Straight” and “Ninth Inning” with a purely sporty cut.

For its part, the Tele Rebelde Channel has not stopped covering the MLB since the beginning of the season, specifically in “Meridiano Deportivo” and the “Noticiero Nacional Deportivo”. Not very wide but constant and that somehow deserves to be recognized.

The fundamental problem continues to lie in broadcasting to Cubans, which remains very distant from what it should be, or at least from what the vast majority of the Cuban people demand, which in short is the corporate purpose of a state television such as the Cuban.

For those born in Cuba who play professional ball in the United States, a low or null profile is generally maintained, with mentions above that level in a few exceptions, assuming “risks” that someone above may jump and protest.

Many will say that everything is little by little and that at least something was advanced. Total reality and that is why we signal the advance without claiming victory yet or conforming to the progression. And it is that in this the time factor cannot be underestimated.

The postseason is now over and worse than that, Cuban baseball every day loses more shine internally and in its international results, and the less prominence is given to the feats of these emigrated players, as emigrants as those who already receive drums and cymbals for their work in Japan, the island’s interest in this sport is even more lost because many people without internet believe that everything related to Cuban ball is failures and problems.

It is true that young Cubans continue to emerge who become stars of that ball but right now some of our “monsters” are retiring without their merits being reflected in their homeland as they deserve professionally speaking.

When the Cuban Sox and the Cuban Astros plus the rest that look like the best there, receive a similar treatment on Cuban television, no longer compared to those committed to the “revolutionary cause” so as not to aspire to so much, but yes with all those foreign athletes who have ended up turning them into idols out of whims and prejudices, and they neither dedicate triumphs to Cubans nor does the word Cuba ever cross their minds in their lives. It is not that it is not lawful for the one who wants to admire more than Bolt, Cristiano or Messi to do so, but to do so with the freedom to choose who is idolized but on equal terms.

As long as that does not happen at least in Full swing This struggle will continue because these people’s media comply with it and stop linking politics in the wrong and thereby discriminate against people who had and have the right to live outside of Cuba and think what they understand about their system. People, in their great percentage, are interested only in their sporting feats.

We are not even going to ask Pavel Otero to come out talking about Big leagues or that a game is broadcast live or delayed. The latter for economic issues to buy the rights and the other, for so many things that now are not the case. Enough that he has allowed the sports journalists he directs to break this absurd media thaw or blockade. There are still a few steps to climb.
