Carlos Delgado supports Carlos Correa’s move to the Minnesota Twins

The contract stipulates that Correa will receive $35.1 million in each year of the contract, which is the best annual salary for an infielder in baseball history. However, the Puerto Rican has the right to exercise an option to declare himself a free agent again at the end of the first and second years of the contract.

“It’s still a great deal. It’s not the number of years he wanted, but he has the tools in his contract to get out next year or the year after. There was no doubt that they were going to pay him,” said Delgado.

Correa spent his first seven seasons in Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros, a franchise in 2012 who chose him in the first round of the draw. During his tenure, he earned the American League Rookie of the Year award (2015) and also helped the Astros win the 2017 World Series. Last season he finished fifth in the MVP voting. Correa was expected to transition to a bigger market like Los Angeles or New York, but that was not the case.

“I thought I could get a contract with a bigger market team. I imagine that he (Correa) thinks that he has that opportunity and that is why he has both options.. It is one of the things that one does not have all the elements to say what happened. Houston said he offered it to him, the Yankees were interested, Boston was interested,” Delgado concluded.
