Puerto Rican baseball player Carlos Correa tested positive for COVID-19, so he could be out of the minnesota twins for the next ten days.
The news was confirmed by Twins manager Rocco Baldelli after Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.. Minnesota lost 7-5 and Correa was not in the lineup.
Baldelli did not specify if Correa has symptoms. He did confirm that the Puerto Rican is vaccinated against the disease.
Under Major League Baseball regulations, Correa will be required to spend a minimum of 10 days away from the team, but he could return sooner if he goes 24 hours without fever symptoms, tests negative twice and is cleared by three separate doctors.
The positive for COVID-19 comes at a time when Correa seemed to find his offensive rhythm with the Twins.. In the last seven days, the Puerto Rican averaged .313, with 10 hits in 32 at-bats. Correa was already out for 11 games in May following a blow to the middle finger of his right hand. At the time, he was placed on the 10-day disabled list.
In his first season with the Twins, Correa has a .279 average with three home runs and 16 RBIs. The Puerto Rican signed a three-year, $105.3 million deal in the offseason after spending his entire career with the Houston Astros.
