Braves surprise Astros in Houston to win game 1 of the World Series

The last time the Braves got to the world series It was 22 years ago and in their first Fall Classic game in more than two decades the club Atlanta gave reason to think about its fourth world championship pennant by defeating the Astros, in Houston, by score 6-2.

For the Braves the victory came quickly and despite the injury of Charlie morton (fibula fracture, out for the remainder of the match), they knew how to handle the lead for six innings to get ahead in the World Series.

The scoreboard was opened on the first turn of the game, with Jorge Soler hitting a solo home run. With his home run, the Cuban became the first player in history to open a World Series game with a four-round stick and the fifth to swing a full lap in the first inning.

However, the Braves knew that this difference was tenuous and Austin Riley gave Brian Snitker more comfort with a double which towed Ozzie Albies (also on the first roll).

Soler was given the task of keeping alive Atlanta’s offensive machinery and a grounder propelled Travis d’Arnaud. The feat culminated in the third roll with another homer, courtesy of Adam Duvall with Eddie Rosario on the trails.

The Astros desperately sought to overcome a complicated panorama left as a legacy by Framber Valdez (he only worked two innings and took the loss) and despite the contacts to boost the careers of Kyle Tucker and Jordan Álvarez generated by Chas McCormick and Carlos Correa, Houston records its fifth straight World Series loss.

To close the account and add to the humiliation the Astros experienced at home, Freddie Freeman drove in the sixth and final Braves career with a sacrifice fly on the eighth roll.

Atlanta, with history in its favor

Historically, the winner of Game 1 of the World Series usually wins the Commissioner’s Trophy. On 112 occasions the Autumn Classic has been played with a format of four victories and the winner of the first match has taken the title 72 times.

However, the Braves must leave behind a heavy slab. In addition to being the team with the most consecutive losses in the World Series (8), they also do not have good numbers in the World Series and They have 25 wins in 54 games for a .462 winning percentage.
