Boston Red Sox push for Freddie Freeman

Veteran Freddie Freeman is in the sights of the Boston Red Sox from free agency ahead of MLB 2022.

The Boston Red Sox have joined the race for Freddie Freeman at the last minute, according to reporter Jon Heyman of the MLB.

It’s no secret to anyone that the Red Sox urgently need a first baseman, they still don’t feel that Triston Casas or Bobby Baldec are ready to take on that position altogether. A clear example of that was when they went after Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber last season.

Kyle Schwarber remains in free agency and some talks have been reported between the two parties, meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox are forced to compete for Freddie Freeman with the Blue Jays, Yankees and Angeles Dodgers in the MLB.

Freeman is that left-handed hitter the Red Sox want, to join other lefties like Alex Verdugo, Rafael Devers and Jackie Bradley Jr, who will be backed by right-handers Xander Bogaerts, Kike Hernandez, Christian Vazquez and possibly Cristian Arrollo.

Rafael Devers has tried to take the “bauta” of David Ortiz in the Boston Red Sox and has not been bad, but even so, general manager Chaim Bloom seeks to put together a lineup that begins with Bogaerts, Devers, JD Martínez and Freddie Freeman.

The 32-year-old is one of the top available free agents left. Freddie Freeman he hit 300 with an 893 OPS, 31 HR, 83 RBI and helped win the World Series after a 25-year drought.
