Boston Red Sox keep eye on Trevor Story

The Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros have been interested in Trevor story in this free agency before the work stoppage in the MLB.

Boston had an interest in free agent shortstop Trevor Story and reached out to his representatives, reported Jon Heyman of the Big Time Baseball podcast.

Story’s mighty right bat would play well at Fenway Park; Whether he would fit at shortstop in Boston is another story. The Red Sox already have All-Star Xander Bogaerts short, meaning one of them would likely have to slide to second base if Story came on board.

The story comes from a bad year with the Colorado Rockies, posting an .801 OPS with 24 home runs in 142 games. But he’s been a consistent 30-30 threat throughout his career, winning a pair of Silver Sluggers and earning two All-Star spots in six major league seasons.

Once the Major League Baseball work stoppage ends, team calls and negotiations with free agents will continue. Story is desired by the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and now the Boston Red Sox.

Story is the answer of all those teams that are looking for an elite shortstop but don’t want to pay Carlos Correa a lot of money.

Notably, veterans like Marcus Semien, Corey Seager and Javier Báez signed from free agency, clearing the way for the remaining shortstop.
