The Toronto Blue Jays lost 5×2 this Friday night against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park, where they were left on the field by a three-run home run by Eugenio Suárez at the height of the eleventh inning. The third baseman caught a curveball (75 miles) from Mexican reliever Sergio Romo and the ball disappeared 404 feet through center field.
However, the Mariners were able to lay down the Blue Jays from the previous inning, but the power and precision of Cuban outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s shots prevented him from claiming victory earlier.
In the tenth inning, with two men in circulation and two outs on the board, JP Crawford lined a single to left off closer Jordan Romano. The ball came quickly into the hands of Gurriel, who picked it up and shot the rubber to cool off the runner Abraham Toro for the classic mile.
The Seattle second baseman, who had pinch-hit in the ninth, doubled Gurriel with the ball in his hand and that is a mortal sin. Definitely, you can’t run more than the ball…
Gurriel’s throw arrived in plenty of time for catcher Alejandro Kirk’s mascot, who calmly waited for Toro’s arrival to put him out, end the inning and force the game to go into overtime until the 11th inning.
This was Yunito’s fourth assist this season, in which he marches second among all left patrolmen of the American League, only surpassed by AJ Pollock (White Sox). The Cuban already dominated this section in the 2021 campaign, so the opposing runners should have a little more respect for him when they are on the trails.
Without further ado, we leave you with Lourdes Jr.’s spectacular shot this Friday against the Mariners, and we remind you that you can enjoy all the videos of the Cuban baseball players by following this link.
