just two weeks ago, the Los Angeles Angels were the top team in the American League West; however, that changed in just two weeks, since now the team has fired Joe Maddon after being on a losing streak of 12 consecutive games taking the loss. With all this, one of the great reasons why the Angels are in such a bad situation it’s because of Mike Trout’s slump.
Until a few weeks ago, Trout was perhaps the strongest candidate to win the American League MVP along with Aaron Judge and José Ramírez, but for a little over a week and a half, the outfielder entered the losing dynamic of his Angels and entered in the worst slump of his entire career so far.
In last night’s game against the Red Sox, Trout singled to snap a streak of 26 consecutive at-bats without a hit, the worst of his career. Since May 29, Trout is batting .036/.156/.036 with one hit, lowering his season batting average from .310 to .276 in that span, as well as his OPS from 1.063 to .957 in just one week.
This has certainly affected Trout’s chances of winning the MVP and as long as the Angels continue in this losing streak, it seems that the best player of the modern era will be left without a postseason again.
